Since the days when ancient Egyptians used kohl to create dramatic eyes, the beauty industry has evolved drastically. Along the way, the typical poster girl has malformed into a heavily edited version of the female species, which has been about as useful for our confidence as a hole in a bucket.
Bopo Women is wiping away that façade and unearthing your inner goddess. Born from one woman’s experience of negative body image, the entrepreneurial skincare business is now championing what matters most: self-love.
And they’re bringing that philosophy to Alt: this March.
On Saturday the 23rd of March, Bopo Women will join forces with Alt: to deliver a free workshop designed to uplift, empower and reshape our attitudes towards the beauty industry. Hosted by Bopo founder Bron Stange, prepare to be inspired in a calming space surrounded by stunning pieces of local art.
Learn how to turn your daily skincare routine into little rituals of self-love. Discover products that don’t promise to “fix your flaws”, but rather contain true self-care benefits to relieve stress, improve sleep, lift mood, rejuvenate and empower. Find new connections with nature through natural ingredients. And leave the day with a new, healthy approach to the way you look at yourself in the mirror.
More than a catchphrase
Bron Stange knows the term “self-love” can be flung around in the name of marketing. That’s not what she’s about. As a self-confessed beauty renegade, her agenda lies in respecting the hard work of social movements to truly boost body positivity – from ideas of race and sexuality to gender and ability.
After all, the power of pure, unadulterated self-love is nothing short of phenomenal. In the words of Dr Christiane Northrup:
“As a doctor, let me tell you what self-love does: it improves your hearing, your eyesight, lowers your blood pressure, increases pulmonary function, cardiac output, and helps wire the musculature. So, if we had a rampant epidemic of self-love, then our healthcare costs would go down dramatically. This isn’t just some little frou-frou new age notion, ‘Oh love yourself, honey.’ This is hardcore science.”
What will the workshop involve?
The afternoon will begin with a lovely chat from Bron, who’ll introduce you to Bopo Women and what it’s all about. She’ll touch on the toxic attitudes enveloping today’s beauty industry and the subsequent need to start creating better relationships with our bodies.
From there, you’ll learn about the Bopo skincare range, which is “designed with one purpose: to maximise the sensory experience and therapeutic benefits”. Sample products such as facial elixirs, moisturisers and mists, with Bron explaining how each item works and what ingredients it contains. Bron will suggest ways you can create self-love rituals in your day-to-day routine, with plenty of opportunities for you to ask questions along the way.
The afternoon will conclude with a glass of Prosecco to accompany your VIP shopping experience in our store. Peruse our range of locally crafted and ethically made products, stunning pieces of art, and sustainable wares.
